Who We Are

We are indigenous Igbo speaking people from Imo State in Nigeria. Imo State is one of the 36 States of Nigeria and was formed in 1976 after it was calved out of the East Central State. It is bordered by Abia State on the east, Delta State to the West, Anambra State on the north, and Rivers State to the south. The state capital, Owerri is often described as vibrant, and predominantly regarded as a huge entertainment location within Nigeria. The Igbos are from South Eastern Nigeria and known to have a strong vibrant culture that is admired all over Nigeria, Africa and the world.

Igbos are one of the major tribes in Nigeria and can boast of so many achievements in all aspects of life, as a cultural group we have been known to practice true democracy from the outset, from when the Igbos lived in remote African villages to the era of colonialism and adoption of Christianity. As an ancient cultural group, the Igbos did not have a central government ruled by one figure head, rather we had an assembly of clan representatives (elders) that come together to make policies that affects their people based on common interest. Igbos are amongst the most widely travelled Africans choosing to make other countries their home while respecting the people and the laws of the land where they have made their abode but never losing touch with the Igbo culture. The Igbos have carried on this tradition for generations everywhere they are found in the world. It is said that once there is more than one Igbo person in a place, they will immediately form a meeting group to foster their tradition and to find ways to contribute to where they reside. Unsurprisingly, thus the advent of Imo - State union UK. Imo-State Union UK does not exist only to foster unity among their people but also to promote the cultural values of Igbo communities in the UK. They are currently working with different charity group networks to develop and execute projects that improve social integration, reduction in crime, keeping safe initiatives, financial education for adults , children, encouragement towards education and many other projects.
